A sweet first birthday cake smash session in my bright, neutral Bay Area studio.
There’s something so special about celebrating your little one turning one. They’re growing, changing, and developing their own little personality—and a cake smash session is such a fun way to capture this stage before it disappears.
My San Francisco Bay Area studio is designed for simple, natural, beautiful cake smash portraits that let your baby be the star of the show.
A Cake Smash Session That Feels Like Your Baby
I’m not looking for perfectly posed smiles or a baby who sits still the entire time. Some of my favorite images happen when babies are simply being themselves—curious, messy, excited, shy, or completely fascinated by their cake.
We’ll start with a few simple portraits before bringing out the cake. This gives your little one a chance to warm up to the studio and lets us capture some sweet photos of them as they are right now.
Then comes the fun part: cake!
Some babies dive right in. Some poke at the frosting with one finger. Some would rather eat the berries on top. And some aren't quite sure what to think about the whole experience.
All of it is completely normal—and all of it makes for memories worth photographing.

A Bright, Neutral Studio
My home studio in the San Francisco Bay Area has a clean, warm, neutral look that keeps the focus on your little one.
Rather than elaborate themed sets, I prefer timeless styling with simple backgrounds, beautiful natural-looking colors, and just enough detail to make the images feel special without overwhelming them.
The studio also gives us a comfortable, private space to take our time and let your baby settle in.
What Should My Baby Wear?
For the first portion of the session, I love simple outfits that show off your baby's personality. Neutral colors, soft textures, overalls, dresses, or a favorite outfit all photograph beautifully.
Once the cake comes out, things can get messy—which is exactly the point!
I also have a small client closet with outfits available to use during sessions, so you don't necessarily have to shop for something new just for your baby's birthday photos.

The Mess Is Part of the Memory
The frosting-covered cheeks, little hands, and curious expressions are some of my favorite details to photograph.
You don't need to worry about getting the cake perfectly smashed or creating a Pinterest-worthy scene. Your baby doesn't have to perform for the camera.
We'll follow their lead and let the session unfold naturally.
Because someday you'll look back at these photos and remember not just what your one-year-old looked like—but what they were like.
Celebrating One Year
Your baby's first birthday only comes around once.
A cake smash session is a fun way to celebrate this little milestone while creating photographs you'll be able to look back on long after the cake is gone.
If you're looking for a cake smash photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'd love to create something simple, joyful, and timeless for your baby's first birthday.
The frosting-covered cheeks are always one of my favorite parts.
